At its annual meetings at the National AAU Convention in Orlando, Florida, AAU Baseball approved the creation of the first ever conferences designed to accomplish the following:
- Strengthen organizational structure throughout the country
- Facilitate the development of new regional competition
- Develop new interconference competition
Conferences
Each of the new ten (10) conferences were formed using the states indicated next to each:
- Northeast - CT, MA, ME, DE, MD, NJ, NH, NY, PA, RI, VT
- Mid-Atlantic - KY, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV
- Southeast - AL, FL, GA
- South - AR, LO, MS, OK, TX
- Midwest - IA, KS, MO, NE
- Great Lakes - IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI
- Mountain North - MT, ND, SD, WY
- Mountain South - AR, CO, NM, UT
- Southwest - CA, HA, NV
- Northwest - AK, ID, OR, WA
