The safety of athletes participating in AAU programs has always been our number 1 priority. This is why the AAU was the first national youth sport organization to enact background screening for its coaches back in 2012.  However, not all background screen companies offer the same level of screening.

Starting in 2025, the AAU partnered with industry leading background provider, the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). NCSI is recognized as the Gold Standard in background screening programs for youth sport organizations with more than two (2) decades of service.

Coaches purchasing an AAU non-athlete membership must consent and complete a 2-step process for the membership to be approved. AAU membership fees include the cost to cover the extensive background screening provided by NCSI.

2. Respond to the email sent from Support@ncsisafe.com to start the screening process.

Please be aware when signing up for AAU non-athlete membership to allow enough time for your membership to clear the background screen before you plan to participate in AAU licensed events.
