ORLANDO, Fla. (October 23, 2024) – The Greater Orlando Sports Commission have announced the finalists for this year’s SPORTYS awards. AAU President Jo Mirza has been named a finalist in the Executive of the Year category.
“I want to take a moment to thank the Greater Orlando Sports Commission for this incredible honor,” said AAU President Jo Mirza. “The Amateur Athletic Union is a 135-year-old organization, and I’m looking forward to having us be in Orlando for the next 135 years.”
President Mirza joins executives from Orlando based professional teams such as the Orlando Magic (NBA) and Orlando City SC (MLS), college athletics leaders from the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Rollins College, and other sports organizations who have hosted events in Orlando this year including the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the PGA Tour. There are 12 finalists for the Executive of the Year award.
Beyond Executive of the Year, there are 12 SPORTY awards recognizing contributions from across the Orlando sports industry. In total there are 68 finalists representing 34 organizations that have been named finalists for awards this year.
“Congratulations to all of the finalists announced today,” said Sharon Line Clary, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission Board of Directors. “We could not be more please to celebrate these tremendously talented individuals in our sports community.”
Winners will be announced during an award ceremony scheduled for December 4th at the Orlando Museum of Art. It will be live streamed online by WKMG-TV News 6.
