The New AAU At The NBA Summer League
This past weekend (July 12-13), the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) hosted a reception and meeting during the NBA Summer League activities in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The meeting of the AAU Youth Basketball Advisory Council (YBAC) brought together various basketball stakeholders from the NBA, WNBA, NCAA and other basketball-centric organizations.
Part of AAU President Jo Mirza’s overall ‘New AAU’ initiative for all sports, this basketball advisory group comprised of key AAU alumni will work towards strengthening the foundation for the continued development and growth of basketball at the youth level.
Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to continuing to build the ‘New AAU’ now and moving forward.

The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by nearly 800,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.
